Sex on your Period

Sex, while you are menstruating, is perfectly ok. Menstrual blood is clean and does not carry any extra risk to either partner. As long as you and your partner are ok with it, there is no reason to avoid sex or masturbation.

WARNING: Do not have vaginal intercourse while you have a tampon inside. It can cause nasty tears when pushed in hard, it can compact and get stuck deep inside the vagina. Just do not do it. Oral sex, masturbation and fingering/rubbing is fine while wearing a tampon.

Yuck

The biggest problem with menstrual sex is the yuck factor. Many women and men are not comfortable with menstrual blood. This is perfectly understandable, even though menstruation is a normal part of almost all women’s lives, and it happens almost every month. There also would not be any children, if it was not for menstruation. Menstruation is an important part of being a woman, fertility and being able to conceive. The advice I can give is not to put pressure on either partner to have sex during her period. If they do not want to, explaining what is happening may help. But DO NOT force either partner to have sex.

Dealing with Yuck

There are various ways of dealing with the yuck factor of period sex. A woman typically bleeds heavy for a day or two, and lightly for 2 or 3 days. Limiting sex to light days will reduce the messiness.

The male partner can use a condom to limit his contact with menstrual blood

Feeling It

It is natural for a woman to not feel at her best during her period. Cramps, lower back pain, headaches and breast sensitivity are all period symptoms. Some days may be better than others. If you do not feel like sex, do not do it. It is perfectly ok to not want sex.

If you are up to it, getting aroused and having an orgasm can make you feel better, or even good. Orgasms are amazing at relieving pain. It does not matter if it is with a partner or alone.

Oral Sex

Many couples prefer to engage in blow jobs (fellatio) while the female is on her period. That way the male partner gets a orgasm without the female partner having to have intercourse. But it is also quite possible for the female partner to receive oral sex (cunilingus). Using a tampon or a menstrual cup will catch the flow.If you shower just before sex and put in a fresh tampon or clean cup,
