Emergency Contraception (EC)
Emergency Contraceptives are for unexpected and unprotected sex, and traditional contraceptive failure. It works by preventing ovulation (pills) or implantation (IUD). It is less effective than traditional birth control methods, and it works better the sooner after the sex it is taken.
There are 4 types of EC, each with its own unique properties:
- Progesterone Only – Plan-B One
- Ulipristal Acetate Only – Ella and EllaOne
- IUD – Copper-T
- Combined Oral Contraceptives (COC) in high doses
